TLDR:

💛 I typically work 5 days a week, and I haven’t always found it the easiest to stay in the zone for that amount of time.

💛 I’ve tried lots of different things – now I bookend my week with two things I want to do.

💛 On Monday morning I livestream in the Unshakeable Business Academy FB group.

💛 The very last thing I do on a Friday afternoon, is host the weekly coworking session for my Friends + Faves community.

Show notes:

Welcome to episode 2.06 of Your Biz, Your Rules. In this show I’m spilling the tea on the very simple scheduling secret that helps me keep up the momentum all week long.

I typically work 5 days a week, and I haven’t always found it the easiest to stay in the zone for that amount of time. I don’t believe that people have to work 5 days a week, but I like having my weeks set up this way – but that’s a conversation for another day!

I’ve tried and tested sooo many different ways of working in my business including:

  • Taking Wednesdays off
  • Working only on passion projects on Fridays
  • Doing creative work in the mornings
  • Working on American time
  • Tracking my time
  • Booking in breaks and fun things ahead of time
  • And many other things…

None of these have helped me feel as motivated on a Friday as I do on a Monday (or vice versa) until I opted for something different. Something even simpler.

You’ll laugh when you hear it because it really is that basic – now I simply bookend my week with two things I want to do.

There’s a smidge more to it than that, but not much.

My Rules

The first rule is that each of my bookends is a recurring appointment, so I don’t have to make extra decisions. It’s set up and I can kind of forget about it!

The second rule is that each of my bookends involves other people, because I (intermittently) thrive on accountability.

The third rule is that each of my bookends has to have a very clear purpose. If it doesn’t have a purpose, I’ll talk myself out of doing it.

That’s it! So let me tell you what they are.

My bookends

My first bookend, i.e. the very first thing I do on a Monday morning is a livestream in the Unshakeable Business Academy FB group. I go live and answer all the questions that have been asked in the group, I do hotspot coaching for anyone who joins live, and I also do card readings for the collective.

It’s in my calendar at the same time each week, so I don’t have to waste any of my daily decision-making choosing how to start my week.

It also activates my mood because my very favourite thing to do in this world is to coach and connect with my clients, so starting my week that way just sets me off on the right foot.

My second bookend, i.e. the very last thing I do on a Friday afternoon, is hosting the weekly coworking session for my Friends + Faves community, the client-only Facebook group I started towards the end of last year.

What I love about this session is the purpose. It’s this power hour to close out the week, so we can all end our day on a bit of a productivity high.

I now never finish my week feeling bad that I haven’t got enough done, which is a gift in itself.

Final thoughts:

Like I said, it sounds very simple…because it is, but sometimes simple is what works!
