TLDR:

💛 When I ask people what’s in the way of them getting what they want, I always get one of three answers:

  1. there’s a particular thought, belief or judgment running on a loop in their head
  2. they don’t have time
  3. they don’t have the energy

💛 Mind:

  • Journaling
  • Meditation
  • Arts & Crafts

💛 Time:

  • A planner that works for you
  • Weekly check-in ritual
  • Hire a VA that you get on with

💛 Energy:

  • Limit time on your phone
  • Energy healing
  • Breathwork

Show notes:

Welcome to episode 205 of Your Biz Your Rules. In this show, I’m going to share some of the tools and tactics I’m using to manage my mind, my time and my energy in 2022.

When I ask people what’s in the way of them getting what they want, I always get one of three answers:

  1. there’s a particular thought, belief or judgment running on a loop in their head
  2. they don’t have time
  3. they don’t have the energy

So I thought I’d record an episode sharing some of my very fave resources so we can say a fond farewell to all of that nonsense, and start getting more of what we want, together.

So let’s look at these one at a time:

Mind

Journaling

Journaling is my sanity saviour! If I start my day with journaling, I’m good. Journaling can take so many different forms but the way that I like to use my journal is to start with morning pages. And I am OBSESSED with this because it really helps me to get everything out of my brain and start detangling things.

I also like to bring more focus and attention into journaling sometimes. If I identify something that doesn’t feel great or is limiting me in some way, I will go deeper into that area using journal prompts to help me. You can grab a whole years’ worth of journal prompts here.

Meditation

I am a relatively new meditator. If someone recommended it to me, I would just roll my eyes and move on and that was because I had a very, very busy mind. And I still do but I know this about myself and have been able to find styles of meditation that work for me, like guided meditation.

I love short guided meditations – I don’t want to be sat still meditating for longer than 15 minutes at a time. I also love active meditations (meditations that you can use whilst doing other things) – this allows me to meditate without needing to sit still.

I love the Superhuman App for a whole range of different meditations – meditations for different things, varying lengths, seated meditations, and active meditations…this app has everything.

You can also grab a bundle of meditation audios that I’ve created here.

Arts & Crafts

This probably isn’t something you’ve heard me talk about a whole lot but I have always loved getting crafty and getting creative.

What I know to be true is that when I have a regular creative practice, I’m a lot more steady in all areas of my life. So I am trying to prioritise this time for myself this year and I have subscribed to a year-long art course called Life Book where you receive an art lesson every single week.

This doesn’t have to be arts and crafts, just something that you really enjoy

Time

A planner that works for you

I love, love, love my planner. I did a whole episode on planner tasks that you can listen to here. The planner I chose for this year is the Hobonichi Techno Cousin and I am in love with it!

This is not about me cramming in as much as humanly possible, it’s about me doing what I need to do with the least amount of stress and drama possible.

So finding some kind of planner system that works the way that YOU need it to. Be aware of your own patterns and preferences and use these to your advantage and choose a planner that supports you in this.

Weekly check-in ritual

Every week, I tend to do this on a Sunday evening or Monday morning. I like to use this time to be really intentional, to review and reflect back on the week that has just gone and then look forward and think about my intentions for the week ahead.

Sometimes this will take 20 minutes, sometimes it will take an hour depending on what is going on

Having this ritual in place makes such a difference when it comes to using my planner and getting things done during the week.

I have a Notion template for my weekly check-in ritual which is available inside my Friends and Faves Facebook Group. If you are a member of that community, go and check out the resources section there.

Hire a VA you get on with

Of course, the thing that most helps me manage my time is having an amazing VA onboard.

Dani is the VA that I’ve been working with for about 2 years now and she is the secret to really helping me manage my time – she is able to take on anything that doesn’t have to be me.

There are things, of course, that I like to do in my business and things that have to be me like working with my clients and creating my trainings etc. Then there are things that I enjoy doing like creating social media content.

And then there are things that need to be done but don’t need to be done by me and she is amazing at just taking all of those things and getting them done and that saves so much time.

People can often put off outsourcing work until they are “ready” and my biggest piece of advice to you is just find someone you like and trust, and someone who is willing to figure things out with you and start as soon as you can.

It really does make a huge difference when you can get rid of some of those annoying things that you don’t particularly like to do, it frees you up in terms of time, in terms of headspace, creativity, and energetically, and that is priceless.

Energy

Limiting time on your phone

I know that if I spend time scrolling on my phone first thing in the morning or in the evening, I feel drained. So I’ve just re-installed the Stay Focused app and I have it set up so that I can’t access Facebook, Instagram, Emails, or Voxer between 7.30 pm and 10.00 am.

This means that I just have so much more headspace. I could feel the difference even after just one day of doing it and so I know I’ll be doing this for the rest of the year.

Energy healing

There are a few different things I have committed to this year to help with this.

I’ve booked in a few months’ worth of energy healing sessions with my friend and client, Darcie Kermode. She is a wonderful energy healer and I highly recommend her sessions – they are a blend of Reiki and her own healing modality.

Every time I have a session with her I leave feeling liberated! So I’ve gifted myself a session every month for the first part of the year to recalibrate and get back to this place of being my fullest self which I feel like I started to lose a little bit last year.

Breathwork

I’m also trying to prioritise breathwork because I know that it’s something that really helps me work on my energy.

I get my breathwork support from a few different places:

Final thoughts:

What I will say is that each of the tools I’ve mentioned here are maintenance tactics more than anything else. They’re here to help me stay on top of my mind, my time and energy, but they’re not necessarily “fixes” for anything deeper that’s going on.

For that, I would definitely recommend connecting with a qualified coach who can support you with your specific set of circumstances. If you would like that to be me, go to dairep.sg-host.com/breakthrough to book a no-strings chemistry chat.

Spoiler alert! In next week’s episode I’ll be sharing the simple scheduling secret that helps me keep up the momentum all week long.
